This day which is celebrated all over Greece since it is dedicated to honour St. Mary, could not pass without a celebration at Mesta, where people grasp every occasion for dancing. If someone wants to attend the feast he should book a table in advance. The whole event is unforgettable for those who have seen it.
The "Agha"
In custom, as in most carnival customs, Dionysian elements, masquerades and satirical songs have been added, and at the end of the day, Agas is led to the square. Agas, accompanied by his staff, tries to enter the village from the old central iron gate of the village. The guards resist vigorously, but eventually manage to get in and head to the main square, to start the trials. There is no lack of humor, teasing and cheering from the attendees, who know that their turn may be coming to trial and condemnation.
